Advanced Work Packaging and Workface Planning

Innovation in work layout, planning, technology integration such that engineering, procurement, and construction work effort is better synchronized and less wasteful with an ultimate focus on constraint free work release through Field Work Installation Packages (FWIPs). Overcomes the low technology penetration, spatial constraints, and constrained work package release inherent to conventional project management.

Innovation in applying foundational principles of industrial engineering and operations research to construction project production workflows and throughput optimization. Ensures that production workflows are optimized through production system redesign, process step productivity enhancement, cycle time reduction, and control of unfavorable variability. Overcomes the non-existence of a real production plan and enables the application of Factory Physics to Construction projects.

Innovation in the field applying time-proven principles of pull planning and reliable promising to manage leading indicators of project productivity. Focuses on windshield metrics for production control instead of rearview mirror metrics that are outcomes, which is the traditional pitfall of traditional project control systems. Innovation in using quantitative techniques for next generation project risk and contingency management. Enables practical realization of megaproject delivery within the accuracy interval of the sanction estimate and the management of contingency and owners reserves consistent with the standards of the Association for Advancement of Cost Engineering International. Overcomes conceptual errors that often exist in owner teams with respect to estimates, estimate accuracy, and using technology to manage and mitigate risk.

Construction Industry Institute Best Practices

Fluent in supporting and extending the practical application of CII best practices in the field spanning multiple research areas. Eager to support the practical deployment of emerging innovations like CII GPT and PrairieDog. Overcomes the barrier of select CII research being limited in practice in the field and merely the subject of study groups.
